IFC Promotes Inclusive Dialogue for Responsible Mining Development in Guinea

A roundtable on the Responsible Mineral Development Initiative (RMDI) was held February 21-22, organized by the Government of Guinea together with IFC and other development partners, to discuss key issues for stakeholders in the national mining sector. The event was attended by over 300 participants including the President and the Prime Minister of Guinea, and other high-level Government representatives.
The RMDI was launched in 2016 and aims to foster understanding about how mining can create value for stakeholders and to inform a national strategic plan for the sector.
As co-chair of the RMDI steering committee, IFC managed the implementation of the process on the ground, facilitated discussions between Government, the donor community and other stakeholders; the process raised awareness on best practices related to multi-stakeholder dialogue and benefit sharing in the mining sector. IFC also facilitated communication around the process at the national and community levels.
