Ramu Nickel Foundation

2000
Ed Anderson, Ricky Kumung

The management issues and practices associated with community  projects in the Mining Industry in Papua New Guinea has steadily progressed over the last fifteen to twenty years. From more or less no prescribed management practices in the "gold rush" period in Wau and Bulolo valleys to major mining projects like Bougainville, Ok Tedi, Misima, Porgera and Lihir, the management practices for community based projects have been initiated and improved.

The Ramu Nickel Project has benefited from the precedent experiences from these earlier projects in PNG as well as development themes and experiences in the mining industry worldwide. A number of technical, social and community initiatives and commercial initiatives undertaken in the Ramu Nickel Project reflect the progress made in the industry.
