This paper provides guidance on how to monitor the complexities of tri-sector partnering to manage social issues in the extraction industries. The four discrete elements of monitoring are presented and discussed:
- the business and social 'context' for the partnership;
- the key factors to look in successful partnership development and maintenance;
- the effectiveness of the governance rules and roles between the partners;
- the outcomes of the partnership for business, communities and government.
Each of these elements is illustrated with examples drawn from monitoring reports prepared for the partnership arrangements facilitated through the Business Partners for Development programme.
