This paper provides guidance on how to develop partnerships to manage social issues in the extractive industries. The guidance is targeted at environment and/or community affairs managers in oil, gas and mining operations around the world. A "tri-sector" model of partnership is promoted, based on a pooling of complementary resources drawn from business, civil society and government. The principles and tools presented in this guidance may also be of interest to civil society organisations and government authorities thinking of "partnering" with the corporate sector.
