As one of its first acts as a new company, following the merger of Teck Corporation and Cominco Ltd., Teck Cominco adopted a Charter of Corporate Responsibility in 2002 that is founded on three broad principles: product stewardship; environmental performance; and, respect for communities. The company has developed a solid track record of successful relationships with communities around its mines through initiatives guided by the Charter. These initiatives include early engagement with communities and stakeholders to agree on sharing of benefits, minimizing disruption to local traditions and way of life, mitigating environmental impacts, plans to ensure sustainability of communities following mine closure and mechanisms to address community concerns as they arise.Teck Cominco Limited is a Canadian integrated natural resource company based in Vancouver, British Columbia, whose principal activities are mining, smelting and refining. The company was formed in 2001 through the merger of Teck Corporation and Cominco Ltd., the two oldest continuously operating mining companies in Canada.
