BSR Conference 2009
Now more than ever, innovative sustainability strategies are needed to deliver business value today, and position companies to successfully meet the greater challenges ahead. The BSR Conference is an essential opportunity to learn how to leverage your resources, implement changes, and succeed in a world where business as usual is no longer viable.
Materiality and ROI Working Session
This full-day working session is dedicated to your company’s sustainability efforts. Work with experts and learn from peers on issues surrounding return on investment (ROI) and materiality. In the best of times, it’s important for companies to consider the ROI of their sustainability efforts. With the economy in a downturn, it’s more important than ever for companies to take a focused, business-aligned approach that creates value for their customers and stakeholders. In this hands-on session, led by Eric Olson, BSR’s Senior Vice President, Advisory Services, participants will develop a basic materiality analysis for their company, as well as learn from compelling examples and best practices.
CommDev / IFC Presentation: Planning and Financial Valuation Tool for Sustainability Investments
Veronica Nyhan Jones and Nathan Monash of the IFC presented the pilot for the “Planning and Financial Valuation Model for Sustainability Investments,” developed in partnership with Rio Tinto Alcan and Deloitte. The model was designed to address the challenges the extractives industry faces in quantifying the value created from sustainability investments. The model estimates the expected net present value (NPV) for the company. The NPV includes both direct value creation and indirect value protection from risk mitigation of a given portfolio of sustainability investments. The model facilitates rational analysis and strategizing, enabling comparisons of different potential investment portfolios for a single project within one company.
